Isidro de la Cal

Jesus SantosThe year of foundation of the company Isidro de La Cal dates from 1952, being the honorary founder Mr. Isidro de La Cal Llorente. On that date Isidro de La Cal began buying fresh fish directly at the port and started sending it to the fish markets of Castile and Leon.

Isidro de la Cal focuses on the supply, production, processing, marketing and distribution of seafood, both fish and shellfish, fresh and frozen.

We have exclusive arrangements with ships that provide a wide and varied range of species from all around the world on a regular basis. Our fleet of trucks assures efficient logistics on a national and European level.

We control processes from source to delivery to ensure quality at all times in all our products. With buyers at major ports of Galicia, we count on a large and steady supply of fish and seafood, fresh and frozen. We work with imports from the five continents and we have our own agents that control at all times the quality of the raw material.

Camiones Rías Altas y Rías GallegasAll products are sold directly (mainly in Spain and Europe) to both the traditional channels (fishmongers and wholesalers) and modern retailers (supermarkets and hypermarkets), as in the established food-service channel with a broad portfolio of clients.

In October 2006 the new facility was inaugurated located in the industrial area of Espiritu Santo in Cambre  (La Coruña). With an investment exceeding 25 million Euros, the new industrial complex has 25,000 m2 available for processing fishery products, both fresh and frozen, its freezing capacity exceeding that of 9,000 pallets, and cold storage of 4,000 pallets. A logistics center with 15 loading docks, primary processing plant with over 5,000 m2, water purification plant, blast freezers and all class  of specialized machinery used in the preparation  of fish and seafood products are some of the  key features of these facilities ,to centralize all domestic and international operations and boost their areas of quality control, research and development.

Now is the time, after the inauguration of the new plant, to launch on the market selected products manufactured under the brands: "Galician Rías (fresh produce in trays with protective atmosphere and fresh pasteurized products) and" Rías Altas "(frozen elaborated products).

With a commitment to always offer a quality guarantee, we have our own laboratory equipped with the most modern systems. Our qualified quality control and R & D department controls and develops new techniques in production processes, studying new applications that improve as much as possible the products we market.

We have different types of certifications that ensure food safety:

International Food Standard (IFS) and British Retail Consortium (BRC), being these the highest standards at the level of demands at the food level.

AcuiculturaWe have certified environmental management systems ISO 14001 and European regulation EMAS (environmental management and audit).

We have implemented quality management systems under the requirements of ISO 9001.

In recognition of the R&D department´s work, we have been awarded the “Galician prize for business innovation”.

In the Aquaculture division we breed species such as rainbow trout, turbot and sea bream.

The philosophy in this division is governed by three basic criteria:

1 º The species are native to Galicia, therefore adapted to the environment.
2 º The volume in capture of these has fallen.
3 º The species have a high commercial value.

Isidro de la Cal, through the Aquaculture Department, is now the only company in the world to own a sea bream farm, ensuring superior quality.
